True Character
"... when your life goes down the toilet, who remains? Take note ... look for true character and a loving heart"

I went through a time in my life when everything was challenged, and it seemed like the bottom fell out! I refer to it as my Psalms 23 Journey. "Yeah, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death ..." But in the midst of the fire, the emptiness and the challenges in life, the cataracts were removed from my eyes and I could see and easily discern the parasites in my life, vs the real true friends, and sincere hearts.
character:
True character is revealed through consistent patterns.
For instance, someone who consistently demonstrates kindness, honesty, and reliability is likely reflecting their true character ...
The true test of character and a person's worth, is how they react when going through troubles and trials, or how they react to others who are going through those troubles and trials.
Do they judge you?
Do they cast you aside like garbage! Or do they seek you out, talk with you about it, console you, counsel you, and maybe comfort you, and encourage you to overcome?
The first type is a parasite.
They are all for you and behind you, until you no longer meet their rules and their requirements. But as soon as something changes, without even checking to find out if what they have heard is true, they will judge you! And they will blame you! They will cast you aside like a stranger, like trash, and take a self-righteous attitude about it, like they've done the right thing! The truth is, they truly ARE a total stranger to you. They were never who you thought them to be. And this trial, this trouble, this issue or time that you are going through, has simply opened your eyes and exposed the chaff in your life. to the souls that need to go, to be removed from your life.
A true friend, is the one described in Proverbs…
"There is a friend who sticks closer than a brother…"
That friend, will stay with you for a lifetime!
And if you truly messed up, they will be there, in your face, refusing to let you fail. They will encourage you, stand up for you, and they will not leave you alone.
Why?
Because they believe in you!
The fact is, they see your true worth. And like GOD, they see your heart and the treasure that is inside you … something the other shallow parasites will never see. Why? Because their focus is on themselves. They are totally encompassed in their own little world, and things the way that they may see them. They are never considering the possibility that they could be wrong. And often, this is because someone in their circles has spread rumors and gossip that they chose to believe. And with those deceiving words, years upon years of believe trust is torn down in an instant, as their true nature comes out. The love and the trust that you thought you had with them was a facade, a pretense, a ruse, at best. It was not real, and now you know that it does not stand the test of fire.
Take note of the people around you…
When something devastating happens in your life, and they leave, you are better off letting them go. They would never have been there for you to begin with. They are like the chaff in the wind, tossed and easily blown, to and fro, as the bible puts it. There is no root, no solid foundation in the relationship you thought you had with them. And for this reason, it is "good" that you've gone through the fire, for you have now discovered their true nature, and the worthlessness of what you thought to be a solid, true relationship. If you chase after them, and persuade them to believe you, then you are deceived if they return to your side! For they will only do this again, at some time in the future, if a challenge ever comes again on the relationship. They will quickly and easily be swayed. You are better off without them in your life.
The ones who stand with you, when you're going through tough times, and when you think you life is at its worst? Those are the ones who believe in you, even though the rumors and scuttlebutt say otherwise, those are your true friends. Those are the people you can build a lifetime with!
Don't waste your time with the double minded, but go for the ones who have a true heart, and true character. Go with the ones who truly understand the real meaning of…
Love.
